Restoring Consumers' Confidence in the Single Market

Date: Wednesday 30 June 10 - 03:45 pm to 05:00 pm

Type: Interactive sessions

The Single Market is the most tangible achievement of the EU and has produced growth and jobs and benefits for European companies and consumers, especially in this time of crisis. A strong economy and competitive companies are highly dependent on consumer confidence and satisfaction.  Correct transposition of the Services Directive, better information for consumers and more consistent and better enforced consumer protection laws will contribute to that end and boost consumer confidence. However, EU consumer policy should not result in excessive regulatory burden on business. It should strike a balance between ensuring an adequate high level of consumer protection and the interest of companies. So what is the right balance? How can the dialogue between consumers and companies be improved?
