Martin Schuurmans
Position: Chairman of the Governing Board, EIT
Dr. Schuurmans (PhD TU/e, 1971) was Professor of Solid State Physics at TU/Delft between 1985-1991. In 1968, he joined Philips to later become the head of experimental and theoretical physics in the Philips Research Laboratories, Eindhoven, Netherlands. From 1991-1994 he headed the solid state research at Philips Laboratories in Briarcliff, NY, USA. In 1995 he was appointed Chairman of the Philips Research Laboratory, Eindhoven and Vice-Chairman of Philips Research world-wide. From 2000-2002 he was CEO of the global Philips Industrial Technology Centre and from 2002 he was responsible for Innovation and Industry at Philips Medical Systems PMS (Boston, USA) until retiring from Philips in 2005. In 2002-2005 he was also a part-time professor of Innovation Management at TU/e. Dr. Schuurmans is currently Chairman of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, EIT.
